Hi everyone,
I love my country, so the piece of art that I choose are the Moai. The Moai are stone's sculptures created by the Rapa Nui people from the Isla de Pascua around 2500 years ago . The natives carved them directly from the volcanic stone in one piece, and when they finish with that, they rolled them until the definitive place for the Moai, It could be a beach. They represented their ancestors or kings and his families and they are all differents, one of them could be a very important king with a hat and very big, and another could represented to a king not very important, so his Moai are not so big than the other one. The Moai are distributed in all the island, but a famose place to visit is the Anakena's beach because there are 15 Moai, the most important and biggest, they are on a stone platform and maybe the Rapa nui pleople used them for communicate with their ancestors. A Moai was finished when they put his eyes. I saw them just on pictures to many years ago, but it`s my dream go to the island and see them on live. I like them because is a mistery to know how they built those things. The word Moai are an uncountable noun, so you always say Moai, not Moais.

Hi Abraham,
These pieces of artwork are a very interesting piece of Chilean culture. I didn't realize that the sculptures represent kings and their families or ancestors. Also, it is interesting that the size of the sculpture depends on the importance of the person it represents. Although you have been able to appreciate the Moai for many years just seeing them in pictures, it would be a great opportunity to go see them in person. Thanks for your post.
